額

中国で「横被（おうひ）」と呼ばれた横ものの掛け軸は、扁額・欄間額に形を変えます。その後、洋額の意匠・構造を取り入れた額装は、現代住宅様式において書画を飾る京表具の大切なアイテムの一つとなっています。

Gaku (Frame)

The horizontal rectangular hanging scroll called “Ohi” in China has been transformed into Hengaku and Ranmagaku.
This framed picture, which incorporates the design and structure of a Western frame, has become one of the important display items of Kyo-hyogu and mounts traditional calligraphic works in a modern housing.

In traditional Japanese-style rooms, there is a rectangular area above the sliding doors or walls called a “Ranma”. This long horizontal framed artwork found there is called “Ranmagaku”.
